Owen Spafford & Louis Campbell will be celebrating the end of their incredible debut album cycle with a final short run of tour dates and an EP of new music,102 Metres East, to be released on Real World X, an imprint label of Peter Gabriel’s Real World Records.
In November 2022, fiddle and guitar duo Owen Spafford & Louis Campbell released their first duo record, You, Golden, on which they displayed a remarkable mastery and vision, especially for a debut. A KLOF Mag Featured Album of the Month, Glenn Kimpton mirrored those thoughts in his review at the time:
Recorded in just two days, with no studio tools to hand, the music throughout You, Golden is fresh, pure and energised but also varied in its nature, as the bold take on Hares on the Mountain suggests, creating a diverse sound using just the two instruments and very occasional voice. This level of confidence is impressive enough, but more remarkable here, considering the age of the two players and the fact that this is their first outing as a duo.
In terms of what lay ahead, this debut album really did set the ball rolling, resulting in countless festival appearances and tour dates, including performances at Seoul Music Week in South Korea – in 2023, culminating in a sold-out headline show at Hall Two of Kings Place in London.
They supported Martin Hayes at EartH (London) and Band on the Wall (Manchester); more recently, they were invited to support Mammal Hands at the Barbican (London). The critical acclaim for their album was incredibly positive across the music press, supported by BBC Radio airplay, including two live sessions on BBC Radio 3’s In Tune.
The duo have also performed in Spafford’s live art installation ‘Welcome Here, Kind Stranger’ in London at The Royal Academy of Music and Luxembourg alongside Sam Amidon and Brighde Chaimbeul.
Individually, Spafford has performed across Europe with his band, The Weaving, and has been a finalist in the BBC Young Composer competition. Campbell has worked as a guitar player for Martin Simpson, Sam Lee and Sam Sweeney and performed at the recent Bert Jansch 80th Birthday concert at the Royal Festival Hall with Martin Simpson, Bernard Butler, Kathryn Williams and others.
The duo will be celebrating the end of this incredible album cycle with a final short run of tour dates and an EP of new music, 102 Metres East, to be released in early March by Real World X, an imprint label of Peter Gabriel’s Real World Records.
