In 2022, we shared a visually stunning video from the composer and pianist Koki Nakano. Filmed on the colourful labyrinthine post-modern La Muralla Roja in Calpe, Spain, he invited renowned choreographer Marion Motin and her young son to perform to ‘External Cephalic Version’ from his album ‘Oceanic Feeling’, described as a celebration of ambiguity; the results were extraordinarily stunning.
For this new video, Nakano has chosen an equally striking space for the performance of MONUMENTAL: Ep. 2 – amongst the flowing architectural waveforms of the Guggenheim Bilbao Museum’s luminous Atrium. The music and choreography of Tess Voelker’s dance seem at one with Frank Gehry’s titanium curves, and, unlike the above-mentioned video, Nakano is present throughout, playing a C. Blechstein piano.
Opening to Mue, all of the compositions are from his album “Oceanic Feeling”, released in 2022 on No Format!, and the performance is part of the MONUMENTAL series, launched by C.Bechstein.
