Our Song of the Day comes from LA songwriter Katie Schottland, aka Swimming Bell. She releases her second album ‘Charlie’, on January 19th 2024, via the Los Angeles label Permanent Records. Today, she shared an animated video for her latest single, ‘For Al and Lee‘, a song written as a blessing for two of her closest friends.
She shared: “I wrote this song as a blessing for my dear friends, Allison and Lee, as they embarked on their next chapter in life. Inspired by Neil Young’s love song to his truck, “Long May You Run,” it captures the impact our time together in New York had on me. We shared incredible moments playing in a band, and our lives intertwined and grew during our time in the city. This song is a reflection of the gratitude I hold for those experiences and the growth with my friends.”
Ripe with Laurel Canyon ambience, Schottland holds an intimacy throughout that is radiant with sincerity. Sculptor artist Isaac Teixeira’s accompanying animation entwines with the song, making the perfect visual companion. Schottland notes how the animation “…perfectly complements the song’s essence,” revealing that she made “the little clay flowers” featured.
It’s a true gift of a song.
