Last year, we shared the news that Niamh Bury had signed to Claddagh Records and released her debut single, Beehive. A combination of balletic vocals and poetic lyrics made a lasting impression and left us wanting for more; she went on to release two further singles, ‘Who Am I To Tell Him?’ and ‘Discovery’.
Niamh has today announced her highly anticipated debut album, Yellow Roses, which will be released on Friday, 29th March, via Claddagh Records. Produced by Brian Brían Mac Gloinn (Ye Vagabonds), Yellow Roses features 10 songs, including the above-mentioned singles. To celebrate the announcement, Niamh has shared her new single ‘Budapest’, accompanied by a dream-like music video Directed and produced by the super-talented Ellius Grace and featuring Fianna Nolan.
Niamh says of the new single: “Budapest was written during a cold February in Dublin. It’s about the places we escape to in our imaginations – outer space or a city we’re dreaming of packing up and leaving to. It’s about the yearning to step outside of your own story to chase that feeling of being a small part of a bigger picture.”
Niamh has been shortlisted for Best Emerging Artist at the RTÉ Folk Awards and, earlier this month, was earmarked by The Irish Times as ‘One to Watch’ for in 2024.
“Insightful, talented and invigorating, Niamh Bury is folk’s most interesting new star”.

Ending 2023 on a high note, Niamh stunned audiences at Other Voices Dingle where she played three very special sets: an intimate acoustic concert at An Diséart against the backdrop of the chapel’s famous Harry Clarke stained glass windows – to say you could hear a pin drop is an understatement; a packed out O’Sullivan’s Courthouse which delighted those lucky enough to squeeze into the tiny pub; and an incredible, string-laden performance at Other Voices’ The Other Room venue, accompanied by revered musicians Caimin Gilmore on double bass and Kate Ellis on cello – this performance will be aired on RTÉ One television this spring.
Of her impending debut album release, Niamh Bury says: “I’m so excited to be releasing this collection of songs I’ve had with me for some time. I’m very proud of it and the wonderful people who worked on it with me. I learned so much making it, and feel very lucky to be letting it out into the world.”
It was Claddagh Records founder Garech Browne‘s wish that the label could be revived, to become, once more, an active contributor to Ireland’s prodigious artistic output…with the likes of Niamh, ÖXN and Rónán Ó Snodaigh & Myles O’Reilly, that dream certainly seems to be coming to fruition.
For Niamh, that desire to champion the rich musical heritage of Ireland is also a personal one, as she is also one of the chief organisers of the iconic traditional singing session The Night Before Larry Got Stretched, which famously takes place in The Cobblestone Pub on the last Sunday of every month and whose founders include members of Lankum.
