Daisy Rickman, a self-taught multidisciplinary Artist and folk Musician from Mousehole, Cornwall, has featured a few times on Folk Radio, most recently in our Lost in Transmission No 102 Mixtape, in which we featured a track from her 2022 debut album ‘Donsya a’n Loryow’ which translates in Cornish to ‘Dance of the Moons’.
She has just announced her new album Howl, which will be released on 20th March 2024 (the Spring Equinox), a time for new beginnings. She is planning a small release tour performing the album live in March, so keep an eye on her socials for details (links below).
Regarding the album artwork, Daisy explained that it’s an oil painting titled ‘Benow Howl’, which in Cornish means ‘Feminine Sun’. She reveals, “The piece is from a series of paintings I made in 2021 during the same period a lot of the songs from Howl were written and is an ode to the work of one of my favourite painters, Hilma af Klint. Klint’s work has had a huge impact on my artistic, musical, and spiritual practice throughout my life, so I wanted to honour her influence on my soul within the artwork of this album.”
The album’s reverse features a portrait, taken by Amelia Pemberton (as above) on “a very cold windy winter day down at Porthgwarra in Cornwall”; she adds, “The black & white gown I am wearing was hand made by dear friend Willow Bumble who also makes beautiful clothes!”
As well as being released on limited edition black vinyl, a gold edition is also being released in collaboration with Weird Walk. The first single, Feed The Forest, is released tomorrow and can be heard below.
