As mentioned this week, as we run down towards the New Year, I’m going to be sharing some of our most popular mixtapes from over the years. This early Mixtape from our Folk Show Mixtape series (from 2017) is one of the most popular. There are some great tracks in here, including a 1971 demo recording from Lal & Mike Waterson. There are also a large number of tracks from debut releases –
- Hannah Rarity’s debut EP Beginnings,
- Georgis Lewis’ The Bird Who Sings Freedom,
- concertina player and innovator Cormac Begley’s self-titled debut,
- Ye Vagabonds’ debut EP Rose & Briar,
- Jack Rutter’s forthcoming solo debut Hills,
- Aidan Connolly’s debut, Be Off,
- Molly Evan’s Deep Time and Narrow space is (a collection of original songs based on the traditional folklore work of Cheshire writer Alan Garner),
- Rosie Hood’s first full-length solo album The Beautiful and the Actual,
- Irish group Landless (Lily Power, Meabh Meir, Ruth Clinton and Sinead Lynch) and their self-titled debut EP,
- From their 2013 self-titled album on Raelach Records, Ensemble Ériu, a septet led by Jack Talty and Neil O’Loghlen,
- And lastly, from Windrose, the debut album from The Routes Quartet featuring Rufus Huggan (cello), Emma Tomlinson (viola), Gràinne Brady and Tricia Mullan (fiddles). They have just released their follow-up Arche.
