Listen to our latest Monday Morning Brew, a weekly Folk Radio Playlist available on Spotify.
This is a very mellow offering of what will maybe be new names to many of you. It opens with Riccardo Ferrara, a musician – guitarist, composer and artist from Napoli, Italy. His last album, Ramingo, is available on Bandcamp. Myriam Gendron also appears, whose debut is being reissued and expanded – more here. Nestled in amongst these tunes are some more familiar names – another fine track from Scott William Urquhart as well as his friend and collaborator Constant Follower (the songwriting vehicle of Stirling-based musician Stephen McAll); these are both taken from a compilation (19-21 Fray, Dissolve into Fade) featuring all Stirling-based musicians – a collective driven by the need for connection. Earlier this year we reviewed their album Even Days Dissolve (read the review here).
Forth Valley, Scotland, has a long history of emerging bands and musical talent. What it has lacked is the support network of professional practice for career-building; the infrastructure of venues, studios, promoters and music press. The Death Collective, a loose aggregation of musicians and supporters, emerged out of this need for connection.
