Kent-born singer and multi-instrumentalist Will Page (frontman of Noble Jacks) plays at the Broadstairs Folk Week in Kent on August 12th. To celebrate his appearance, Will has written, played, produced and recorded a brand new single, eulogising this internationally renowned Kentish musical gathering.
Having performed at the festival in previous years with his band, Noble Jacks, Will’s new song describes the joy and excitement surrounding the festival and acknowledges its importance for the genre and local area. “Broadstairs Folk Week is such a fun festival and an important event for folk music in the South East as the genre represents the voices, stories, and traditions of generations past, so celebrating and preserving it helps maintain a connection to our cultural roots and provides a sense of identity and belonging for our people,” says Will. “I’d like to see more young people and groups playing folk in the South East – they don’t know what they’re missing out on!”. Will goes on to say, “it is also important to note the role of the festival in attracting tourists and visitors who are interested in experiencing authentic cultural traditions, and so boosts the local economy, promotes tourism, and creates opportunities for artists, musicians, and businesses”.
Will told Folk Radio:
“I am extremely excited for the release of my new single ‘Broadstairs’ and I can’t wait to sing it live when I perform at Broadstairs Folk Week on 12th August! I feel my new single captures the joy and ‘good vibes’ of this special event, and am delighted that it has been so well received by the festival themselves! Come now to Broadstairs!”
It’s a great single on which he nails the buzz and build-up of the festival and the ensuing party atmosphere. Broadstairs is released this Friday, 4th August.
Will hopes that his show at Broadstairs on 12th August will support the celebration of these traditions and inspire those involved at the show and wider audiences with his single, particularly young musicians.
Playing folk has brought me so much joy in my life; the spark between players and dancing audiences is a unique feeling which the beat and the music enables. I hope I can inspire more young musicians to take up folk.
