Earlier this month, Rachel Sermanni announced the release of her new album Dreamer Awake on Navigator Records (15th September – Pre-order it here). With that announcement, she shared her lead single ‘Jacob’, which explored the break-up that preceded the album, the complex realisations that followed, and the important step of practising or regaining self-love.
Today, she is sharing her second single, Killer Line, from Dreamer Awake, which was co-produced with Peter Miles at Middle Farm Studios in Devon, and inspired in equal measure by ruminations on Carl Jung, societal roles & archetypes, and the channelling of personal experience. The album connects deeply with ideas of the subconscious, and nothing embodies that exploration more perfectly than her track, ‘Killer Line.’
Filmed live in the studio, Rachel shared the following on the song and video:
“It took a long while to come into a resonant existence for me, a lot of re-evaluating and experimenting with various versions. It traces the experience of ideas that come to you in liminal states, that slip through you like wind, never to return, leaving only a hint of Feeling within you.
“Instigated and inspired when my friend Pat told me he’d dreamt that I’d come up with a line for a song, a Killer Line. But he couldn’t actually remember what it was. I know this feeling. You likely know what I speak of. What is the word for that feeling!?
“So here it is…a – slightly dizzying – live video of the very take that made it onto the album from Middlefarm studio. You get to gaze – in a roundabout way – at my monumental band: James Banner, Declan Forde, Elio Evangelou, Soren Bryce, Paul Santner, India Bourne & Max Andrjewski as we sit in studio, recording to tape with Pete Miles at the producing helm. So glad we have these moments of documentation thanks to Daniel Broadley.”
Dreamer Awake is out September 15th on Navigator Records on CD, Digital and limited edition Ultra Clear Vinyl.
