Folk and Americana singer/songwriter Daisy Chute will release her third EP, Maiden, Mother Crone, on April 14th 2023. The EP has a strong feminist theme prevalent in the songs, all being released as singles following ‘Women’s History Month’ in March. It features an all-female team of musicians and producer, including Michele Stodart (Magic Numbers) on bass, Emma Holbrook on drums, Midori Jaeger on cello, Elisabeth Flett on violin, Holly Carter on pedal steel and producer Anneliese Shaw on backing vocals and percussion. The EP artwork was made by Daisy’s talented artist mum Alice Beberman Chute.
The third single, ‘Spirit of the Singers’, a co-write with Hannah Brine, is coming out on April 7th. Watch them performing the song live below, with Daisy on lead vocals and guitar, Hannah Brine on backing vocals and Midori Jaeger on cello. It’s a beautiful tribute to some of their favourite female singers from whom they have found inspiration.
‘Spirit of the Singers references female artists we grew up listening to and from which we found inspiration – artists like Buffy Sainte-Marie, Joni Mitchell, Carole King and many more – sadly we couldn’t fit all of them in! It’s about how their music and voices echo through the next generations of singer-songwriters, paving the way for all of us. It’s about standing on the shoulders of these greats and trying to continue their legacy and hopefully inspiring the next generation too.’
