Taken from her new album ‘Dream From The Deep Well‘, out on 30th June via Records, Brigid Mae Power has shared a video for her latest album single ‘Counting Down‘.
Musically, Power maintains that band approach she so delighted us with on Head Above The Water, likened then by Thomas Blake to Jessica Pratt (or an Irish Anne Briggs) fronting The Band circa The Basement Tapes.
On ‘Counting Down‘, her second album single, the addition of flute spins a Laurel Canyon dreamy glow on proceedings as Power recounts the balancing act of being a touring musician – “making new friends I always have to leave, I’m considering a new career, but all I can do is play music by ear…” and a mother…”every step I take has meaning, when I’m getting you to school, or your swim lessons at the pool…”. It’s another homespun gem from one of the finest contemporary singers on the scene right now.
She shares: “Counting Down’ is a simple song about the ups and downs of music and touring. It reflects on feeling homesick and the frustration from meeting great people on the road and then leaving them, almost immediately, as the next town beckons. It’s also about realising that performing is a great privilege, it’s just a hard and strange way of life, but ultimately the only one I can really do.”
‘Counting Down’ is also our Song of the Day.
