We recently reviewed Solstice: A Tribute to Steffen Basho-Junghans, a tribute album curated by Buck Curran. In his album review, Glenn Kimpton concludes, “This amount of musical quality and artistic depth is rarely found on one compilation; I urge you to purchase this remarkable collection immediately.”
Among the twenty-three beautiful contributions featured on the album is a recording by Australian guitarist Darren “D.C” Cross titled Brumby. We reviewed his 2022 album Hot-wire the Lay-low (Australian Escapist Pieces for Guitar) here, and in that review, Kimpton concludes that D.C Cross is a player with plenty to say and all the skills to say it. He also notes that while he is clearly ingrained in the Tacoma school of guitar playing, with strong rhythmic picking firmly underpinning many of the tunes, his style is also finely nuanced and diverse.
Cross has just shared a beautiful live rendition of the track “Brumby”, which you can watch below.
