Since immersing herself in the folk world, she’s performed with Show of Hands on the main stage of Sidmouth Folk Festival, been selected for Sound and Music’s highly competitive New Voices Programme and had one of her original songs ‘Love is a Rocking Wave’ played on The Nest Collective’s ‘Singing with Nightingales Broadcast’ hosted by Sam Lee. Georgie has most recently been selected to participate in the English Folk Expo’s Artist Mentoring Programme and has performed at Focus Wales and Cambridge Folk Festival 2022. In 2022 she supported renowned folk acts Ye Vagabonds, Katherine Priddy and John Francis Flynn.
Georgie’s highly-anticipated debut album titled ‘Wise as a Fool‘ is being released on 28th April (pre-order via Bandcamp), an enticing collaboration, as demonstrated below, with the Leeds-based talents of – Emma Coleman (Me and My Friends), Rob Mackay (Drymbago), Evan Davies (The Often Herd), Joel Stedman, and Joe Love (Ancient Infinity Orchestra). Georgie delivers a hauntingly beautiful musical experience through this unique collaboration, combining acapella harmonies and shimmering instrumentals to create captivating musical landscapes.
Taken from the album, watch the captivating video for St Bríd’s Song below, on which Georgie shared the following:
Inspired by the raging shores of the Outer Hebrides, I composed St Bríd’s Song to call in the ancient Celtic goddess Bridget with intense vocal harmonies, expressive cello and raw percussion. I worked with dance artist Sophie Hutchinson and videographer Ruta Puzaite to create a powerful music video on the west coast of Ireland.
The Celtic goddess Brigid or Bridget is a revered figure in Celtic mythology and culture. She is often associated with healing, fertility, inspiration, and poetry and is celebrated by many as a protector of women and children. Brigid is commonly recognized as a triple goddess, with her three aspects representing different facets of her character and power. Today, she continues to be celebrated by many as a symbol of feminine strength, creative power, and nurturing energy, something that is beautifully captured in the song and video.
As a goddess of inspiration and poetry, Bridget is revered for her creative and intellectual power. Many believe that invoking her can help to unlock the creative potential of an individual, aiding in writing, music, or other artistic endeavours. She seems to have answered Georgie’s call.
Wise as a Fool is a fusion of traditional melodies and original compositions, with each song and story reflecting on Georgie’s heartfelt connection with nature. The music takes the audience on a journey of personal growth, charting a path of recovery that many can relate to at its core. It promises to be a soul-stirring collection of songs that fans of Georgie and folk music lovers will appreciate.
