‘A Little Closer’ is the latest single from UK-based Jessie Reid featuring French-born Easymess. As well as being her first release of 2023, the indie-folk love song has already been tipped as her strongest release to date, and the current number of streams adds weight to that statement.
While the numbers are worth shouting about, her previous singles have wracked up over 5 million streams, the proof is in the pudding, and this live session recorded at RYP Recording studio provides ample evidence as to why Jessie has garnered well-deserved support from the likes of Chris Hawkins and Tom Robinson on BBC 6 Music, along with a regional BBC Introducing Artist of the Year accolade.
Jessie describes the soul-baring inspiration behind the latest single:
“Ultimately it’s a love song – but quite an ‘unhealthy’ love song. It’s about feeling a bit lost and unsure of yourself in a relationship and knowing that things aren’t right. Despite knowing this, you still want to feel a sense of comfort and love and to be held ‘a little closer’ – to hold on to some sort of hope – for a little longer.”
Jessie Reid pours her heart into her creations, and her delivery here is achingly beautiful. Vocally, she conveys a rich depth of emotion that draws you in. Additionally, her voice is a perfect match for Easymess; this is one you will keep wanting to revisit.
Playing live is very much part of this young artist’s palette, with festival appearances at Black Deer Festival, Moseley Folk Festival and Green Gathering already under her belt, along with support slots for Seafret, Dan Owen, Ciaran Lavery, Bryde and Brooke Bentham, and multiple Sofar Sounds appearances across Europe, the UK and South America.
