‘Holes’, is the latest single from Irish-born London-based guitar folk-pop artist Brian Grogan. As the footage testifies, this single is dripping with danceable, feel-good rhythmic beats that are reminiscent of Cocos Lovers and their African guitar and rhythm section.
Despite the vibrant sound and the equally vibrant video below, the lyrics are melancholic, touching on separating from a relationship that isn’t benefiting either party. The song starts by speaking of a new relationship and being ‘taken by them’, but there is a suggestion of unrest discerned from the get-go with an uncertainty. ”We go our own separate ways, and it doesn’t take much, doesn’t seem to take much… In this hole called life…‘
‘Holes’ is the second single taken from Brian’s forthcoming release, which will be out later in 2023. This follows the release of ‘A Family‘, which picked up big support from BBC London‘s Gary Crowley.
Brian tells us:
The music video was shot over a series of rehearsals between September 2022 and January 2023, thus the odd Christmassy background. Choreographed by myself and my uber-talented good friend Monica Vinoly. A little bit of trivia, the Irish dancing that you see me attempt at the end was taught to me by Monica….a Spanish woman. Monica joined me on stage about 8 years ago at a London open mic called Noteworthy (she’s an amazing violinist!!) and we’ve been friends ever since.
More trivia? Her partner Filippo Galli plays the drums on the track, so obviously a very significant couple in my life! Oh, and Filippo introduced me to the producer of the album Fi Mac aka Fjokra.
The idea for the video came from the simple fact that I love dancing and feel like there’s not enough in my life. The video was edited by Kitty O’Neal aka @musicbymarch.
