The new alt-folk-pop trio, Sylvan Weekends, are the latest band to reap the benefits of a stay in the woods, as their new single attests.
The band combines the creative spirits of Matthew (Keston Cobblers Club/Stables), Freya, and Daniel (Stables). The band came together after they spent a night in a cabin in the woods, where they played and talked all night. As a result, Sylvan Weekends is a conglomerate of multiple genres based on each member’s preference (Matthew and folk, Freya and instrumental electro, and Daniel and rock), with a name that represents this very weekend they all came together.
The live session below features “Symmetry”, a track from the band’s debut EP, Outliers, out in May this year and supported by their first-ever UK tour (see dates below).
Life is a series of highs and lows, and Sylvan Weekends’ latest single, “Symmetry,” portrays this concept by combining indie-folk with a synth twist. Fans of duets such as Dodie and Tom Rosenthal’s “Years Years Bears” and Of Monster and Men will be pulled in by Matthew and Freya’s complementary harmonies, who also co-wrote the song.
Symmetry is written about the connection between two people and the tumultuous decision they must make to be happy. The instrumentation for the track started with a simple acoustic guitar, which was slowly added to with layers of synth, hollow-body and Daniel’s driving drums. Besides well-thought-through arrangements, their music has a very organic and communal feel, which is sure to resonate with an audience in a live setting. Make sure you find out when they tour in May (see below).
