Last year, Athens, Georigia-based guitarist and songwriter, Shane Parish released ‘Liverpool‘, “in the simplest terms, an album of guitar instrumentals based on sea shanties” as well as “a meditation on the nature of artistic exploration, on how both music and preconceptions can alter over time.” As Thomas Blake said in his album review, “As the lead guitarist in prog experimentalists Ahleuchatistas he is well-versed in the art of making weird and wonderful sounds while hooked up to an amp. On Liverpool, he makes good use of his pedigree, tuning in to the exciting and sometimes discomforting area between melody and abstraction.”
Shane recently released a new single from his first full-length album of songs with words (spoken and sung). While the album is still in production, he offers this peak behind the curtain with a lush and hypnotic video for his song “Walk Back Words”, featuring clarinet by John Fernandes (Elephant6/Olivia Tremor Control) and violin by Courtney Werner (Magic Tuber Stringband). As on Liverpool, melody and abstraction also come into play, making this a deliciously quirky number. It’s also our Song of the Day.
I walked back the words I said to you
I walked back the words I said to you
There’s a time and a place
And we both know
That saving face
Is not
My
Strong
Suit
Shane also appears on the recently reviewed Solstice: A Tribute to Steffen Basho-Junghans.
