Portuguese Fado star Carminho is set to release her much anticipated new studio album Portuguesa on March 3rd and has announced a UK concert, her first in over six years, at Union Chapel in London on May 12th.
When Carminho first appeared on the scene, releasing her first album Fado in 2009, many were taken by the maturity in her voice for one so young, including Portugal’s first lady of Fado – Mariza. Her last album, Maria (2018), was a stripped-back bold offering which achieved Platinum status in Portugal and shifted her from a rising star to one of the world’s leading proponents of traditional Fado – no small feat for a singer who is now only 38.
Like her last, her sixth album Portuguesa, was also self-produced and is due for release on 3 March. Here she is performing O quarto (fado Pagem), the opening track from her new album.
Carminho has performed at some of the most prestigious venues, from the Barbican Centre in London to Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg and the Konzerthaus in Vienna, and this year’s international tour will visit over twenty-five countries, providing music fans around the globe with the opportunity to witness one of Portuguese music’s most unique talents.
She will be appearing at London’s Union Chapel on Friday, May 12 at 7.30pm. Tickets go on sale at 10 am this Friday via www.serious.org.uk/Carminho
