Back in September, we shared the news of the Transatlantic Sessions concert series which celebrates its 20th Anniversary next year. A fresh cross-generational array of Scottish, Irish and North American-based special guests join the regular all-star instrumental line-up for dates as follows, including two nights in Glasgow as part of Celtic Connections and, for the first time, a show in Edinburgh.
Allison de Groot & Tatiana Hargreaves have been added to the 20th-anniversary line-up for TRANSATLANTIC SESSIONS, touring FEBRUARY 03-11, joining special guests Martha Wainwright, Liam O Maonlai, Karen Matheson and Amythyst Kiah alongside the dazzling all-star house band.
Leaders in the young generation of roots musicians, banjo player De Groot and fiddle player Hargreaves are rising stars in old-time Americana music and won “Best Bluegrass Album” at the Independent Music Awards for their self-titled debut album. They create a sound that is adventurous, masterful, and original, as they expand on the eccentricities of old songs, while never losing sight of what makes them endure.
Earlier this year, they released Hurricane Clarice (Free Dirt Records) which drew on their collective family histories and communities, including audio recordings of their respective grandmothers. In his review of that album, Mike Davies concludes “While Allison de Groot and Tatiana Hargreaves’ debut rightfully saw them critically acclaimed as a shining new force in string band music, Hurricane Clarice shows their light to be even brighter.”
