2022 saw a great alliance and friendship between the Show of Hands and Track Dogs, culminating in an electrifying killer set for the headline gig of Shrewsbury Folk Festival. The combination of these two bands has all the depth of the shared folk genres with a whole new level of in-your-face energy.
I’m sure that most of our readers are familiar with Track Dogs featuring Garrett Wall (vocals and guitar), Dave Mooney (mandolin and bass), Robbie K. Jones (Cajon) and Howard Brown (trumpet). Earlier this year, in his review of ‘Where To Now?‘, their seventh studio album, Johnny Whalley opens: “Having had the pleasure of meeting Track Dogs at several festivals in recent years, I’d confidently predict that arriving anywhere in the world, they’d rapidly hunt out kindred spirits and start making music with them.” Well, it seems they found kindred spirits in the form of Show of Hands. Both bands certainly fit the ‘must be seen live’ label, and anyone who managed to catch their successful Spring Tour will testify to the power of that combination.
Fear not if you missed out, as they have just announced The ‘Dog Show Sessions’ Live, which will be released on 1st February, with pre-orders from today. The album was recorded at Eggbeer Farm and Exeter Cathedral, and the album gives the listener the entire Dog Show Sessions setlist from that tour.
Today sees the release of the first single, a rip-roaring joint effort on a bluegrass, Americana classic, “Ruby, Are You Mad at Your Man”. Watch the accompanying video below.
Show of Hands have also revealed that Track Dogs will be joining them again for a very special show at the Royal Albert Hall:
We couldn’t launch this album without breaking with tradition and announcing that Track Dogs will be joining us as one of our special guests for the Royal Albert Hall on 10th April! There will be more collaborations and plenty of surprises yet to come, so make sure not to miss out on “The Last Post” – Show of Hands at the Royal Albert Hall, 10 April 2023.
