Earlier this year, Toronto-based songwriter Abigail Lapell released Stolen Time which our man-in-BC, David Morrison, reviewed here. He was quick to home in on Abigail’s vocals – ‘a classic folksinger’s timbre – a sweet amalgam of Natalie Merchant, Frazey Ford, Kacy Lee Anderson, and Jacqui McShee‘ and also highlighted her songwriting – an honest and compassionate chronicler of the human condition.
One of the songs on that album was Old Flames, for which she has just shared a live video that was recorded at her Toronto album launch at The Dakota Tavern, featuring Jenny Berkel, Dan Fortin, Jake Oelrichs and Rich Burnett.
“This was a pretty special night. We played the new album front-to-back, and it was one of my first shows with a live band since things shut down in 2020 (also my first time performing some of these songs with a live audience). I was a little nervous for this one but managed to pull it off with the support of these amazing collaborators.”
