Sorry Song is the latest single from Yorkshire songwriter Elanor Moss and her first offering since her debut EP ‘Citrus’ made such a splash back in February.
The single is described as the first part of the soundtrack of the aftermath of the events that inspired ‘Citrus’ and her growth as both a person and a songwriter in the wake of it.
The combination of flute, guitar, synth and clarinet creates a slightly surreal dreamscape and a lightness of touch that highlights her ethereal vocals. A sense of calm and acceptance permeates the song, accentuated by Alessia Stranieri’s accompanying video and her clever use of the colour blue throughout, a colour often chosen to project peace and calmness.
Like the video, Elanor’s lyrical observations are no less captivating.
I’m sorry for all of the takeaway food
I promise that I’ll get the dishes done soon
I’ll scrub away every stain
The soap keeps the monsters away
She recorded the song with Oli Deakin (Lowpines, CMAT), who also plays clarinet, synth and a second guitar on the track.
She says of the song: “I wrote ‘Sorry Song’ for someone who I really wanted to thank. I wanted to thank them for looking out for me when I needed someone to. The apology is for the fact that at the time I couldn’t really do the same for them. It marked a turning point for me in my songwriting; although it’s an introspective song, it’s directed outwards. I was in a place where I could examine through songwriting how I affect other people and not just how they affect me. I guess it’s me taking responsibility, in a way.”
