Rozi Plain announces her new album PRIZE, featuring her most expansive cast of players to date and shares the video for her first single, ‘Agreeing for Two’.
Whether from the days spent in Bristol’s DIY scene, rubbing shoulders with the equally innovative Kate Stables of This is the Kit and Rachael Dadd, or to London’s epicentre, Rozi Plain has maintained a certain vibe across all four of her albums to date. She has an unmistakable vocal which sounds convincingly at home when peeling off staccato Haiku-length verses over her self-built electric guitar.
Her arrangements are often loose, jazz-like, stripped-back and nuanced, with space for singular instruments to weave and play. She creates an appealing canvas for the cast of musicians who have joined her in the past – Rachael Dadd, Marcus Hamblett, Sam Amidon, Kate Stables, Joel Wästberg (sir Was), Aidan O’Rourke, Darren Hayman, Alexis Taylor, Serafina Steer and many more. With her new album PRIZE (13 January 2023 on Memphis Industries), Rozi has assembled her most expansive cast of players to date, including Jamie Whitby Coles, Kate Stables, Amaury Ranger, Gerard Black, Cole Pulice, Bas Jan’s Serafina Steer, Danalogue (Comet Is Coming / Soccer 96), Yoshino Shigihara of Yama Warashi, Emma Smith and Alabaster dePlume. It promises to be quite the trip.
Joining her on the lead single, Agreeing For Two, are Kate Stables of This Is The Kit on backing vocals (who is also in the video below) and Alabaster dePlume on sax, a musician who came into his own on his recent album Gold via the highly respected International Anthem on which he was joined by no less than 21 musicians including Rozi Plain.
When she invites you into a new space, it may be new sonic territory, but it’s no less hypnotic, charming and inviting. Throughout ‘Agreeing For Two’, she maintains that reassuring warmth while exploring new ground.
“This song was started when I spent a week on the Isle of Eigg writing new music. Mainly it’s thinking about how easy it can be to unknowingly make decisions on behalf of other people, thinking you might know what’s best or right for a situation where as maybe it’s just what was easiest for you… I love the saxophone line that Alabaster Deplume added – brings a bit of his trademark heart and hopefulness.” Rozi Plain
On Instagram, she shared: “…the video for new single Agreeing For Two made by @jack____barraclough is now live!! follow the link in the bio to watch it!! I love working with Jack. I love working with Kate. We drove to Dartford and spun around on a big disk!”
PRIZE will be available on LP, CD and limited edition Dinked version (hand numbered and on translucent street lamp orange vinyl with a Rozi designed 2023 wall planner). Click here to pre-order.
