As previously shared on Folk Radio, Sairie are releasing an EP of film music titled The Cinder Sheet on 23rd September. Sairie are Emma Morton (vocals, autoharp), Jon Griffin (vocals, guitar) and Andy Thomas (bass), from East Sussex. Their music is a mix of original and traditional folk, inspired by their shared love of dark tales, folklore, mystery and nature. Since sharing their video for Pearl’s Song (from the film Night of the Hunter), Folk Radio had the pleasure of presenting them at Sidmouth Folk Festival, where, despite being one down, they put on a great set at A Cellarful of Folkadelia. Today they are releasing their second single.
As a diversion from the difficulty of the past two years of pandemic and lock-downs, Jon and Emma decided to cheer themselves up by celebrating their life-long love of the cinema by recording their own arrangements of a couple of favourite movie songs. This project quickly gained a life of its own and blossomed into an eclectic mix of visionary Sci-Fi movies, French New-Wave, Film Noir and Westerns. The Cinder Sheet EP presents these eight songs to the world as a truly heartfelt tribute to some of their favourite cinema composers and directors.
Their latest single is One More Kiss Dear, originally from the film Blade Runner and composed by Peter Skellern and Vangelis. Watch the accompanying video below:
