Richard Thompson is releasing a live album: The Richard Thompson Acoustic Trio – Live From Honolulu. Although the physical is out on 26th August 2022, the digital version can be downloaded now from Bandcamp.
The album opens to Mingus Eyes, and you only need to wait a few seconds to appreciate that the legendary Danny Thompson is on double bass. Michael Jerome completes the trio on drums and Cajon. Although I can’t be 100% certain (as there are no details provided yet), the suggestion is that this is from 2006 at the Red Elephant – 1144 Bethel Street, Honolulu, which looks very likely. I came across some photos from that night here.
The set appears to be uncut, so you can hear Thompson’s dry humourous banter in between tracks, and there are plenty of classics covered on this thirteen-track set, including Misunderstood, Shoot Out The Lights and Johnny’s Far Away.
If you’re a Thompson fan, then make sure you check out our interviews with Richard from 2018 | 2019 and 2020.
His book, Beeswing: Fairport, Folk Rock and Finding My Voice, 1967–75, is available in Hardback, Paperback and also as an Audiobook, which Richard narrates. Order it here.
