Nora Brown‘s new album ‘Long Time To Be Gone‘ is out on 26th August, and it’s been generating a lot of excitement. Nora has received tremendous support from fellow artists, including Jake Blount, who tweeted: “If you’re not listening to Nora Brown yet, you’re wasting your life”.
She has just shared a video of her performing Wild Bill Jones with fiddle player Stephanie Coleman; they are currently touring together. The tune doesn’t feature on her new album or her previous two, so this was a pleasant surprise. She says they learned it “from George Gibson in Knott County, KY. We arranged that version with some fiddle.”
Another banjo player (and maker), Clifton Hicks, filmed George Gibson performing the tune in 2011. He says, “George R. Gibson was born in a log house in Knott County, Kentucky in 1938. He learned to play banjo in the early ’50s from his father, neighbors and other musicians who frequented the family’s grocery store.”
While on tour recently, Nora played at Folkové Prázdniny in Namest Nad Oslavou, where she also performed with the super-talented Rheingans Sisters; it was quite a performance, and there was a beautiful dynamic between them all. Nora shared two short videos on Instagram:
