A lot of this week’s show pulls silken threads from the past for a very mellow, relaxed mix but we also have a number of new tracks scattered in amongst them. This includes music from:
- Sew Change, the sophomore album by Irish duo Colm O’Connell and Rory McDaid, collaborating together for their project Rezo which translates as ‘I Pray’ in Spanish. Sew Change is set for release on 30th September 2022 and follows their acclaimed debut album Travalog released in April 2021.
- Halfway Home, the latest offering from Robert Leslie, an indie-folk artist known for performing on streets across Europe, North Africa, and New York City. His alluring voice, soaring melodies, dense poetic imagery, and freewheeling approach to life have garnered him a large and loyal following. Born in NYC, rand aised in London and Amsterdam, Robert left home at a young age and spent two years supporting himself as a travelling street performer, ping-ponging with the seasons between northern Europe and Morocco, finally winding up in Brooklyn. Halfway Home is out now and available via Bandcamp.
- A few days ago, Bonnie “Prince” Billy shared a gorgeous revitalized “Outsider” anthem, a cover version from one of the giants of the punk era, featuring a number of special guests including the dearly missed D.C. Berman.
- Fortune Goodies is the third full studio album from Minami Deutsch who were formed by Kyotaro Miula (guitar, vocals, synthesizer) in Tokyo in 2014. “Everyone has their own imagination about outer space, and each one of us gets to daydream about what exactly floats or exists there. ‘Fortune Goodies’ is Minami Deutsch’s long-awaited 3rd studio album. While not all the songs on the record function as straightforward Krautrock this time around, they still manage to capture the spirit and heart of the genre. After relocating from Tokyo to Berlin, Miula’s musical vocabulary has greatly expanded, thus resulting in this ultimate Japanese take on cosmic music in 2022.” Pre-Order via Bandcamp.
- The track from Eliza Edens was a Song of the Day, the lead single for the Brooklyn-based folk songwriter’s sophomore album We’ll Become the Flowers. As I said: “Like a good photo, how you frame a subject makes all the difference, and Edens provides a masterclass in composition.”
- We reviewed Friendship‘s album ‘Love The Stranger’ recently in which Bob Fish highlights how songwriter Dan Wriggins understands the importance of small moments.
- We end on the latest offering from Brooklyn’s Wilder Maker and their latest offering Male Models which features a dynamic roster of musicians, inclusing guest lead vocalists: Adam Duritz (Counting Crows), Katie Von Schleicher, Felicia Douglass (Dirty Projectors, Ava Luna), Alex Schaaf (Yellow Ostrich), V.V. Lightbody, and Mutual Benefit. Grab it here on Bandcamp.
