Bristol-based folk trio Tarren, featuring Sid Goldsmith (Jimmy Aldridge & Sid Goldsmith, Awake Arise), Alex Garden (The Drystones, Harriet Riley & Alex Garden) and Danny Pedler (Pedler // Russell) have just shared their video for the delightful De Rien, a tune by Danny.
They are gearing up for the release of their forthcoming debut album Revel (out 29th August) on which they combine cittern, concertina, fiddle, viola, accordion and Hurdy Gurdy to create new dynamic folk music. As I said before, “This is just the kind of band we need on the folk circuit today”…so be sure to catch them on tour (see below).
Revel [rev-uhl]
Verb
1. To take great pleasure or delight. To revel in luxury
2. To indulge in boisterous festivities
The sleeve design of the new album (by Bristol-based Imogen Pauley) perfectly reflects the music and the trio’s sentiment towards their creation. It features agender characters that Imogen affectionately calls Oinkles who can be seen dancing throughout a surreal Daliesque cityscape…from folk musicians to morris dancers, it captures that real sense of celebration that can be heard on this album.
The trio tell us: “This album is a celebration of togetherness, crafted with love and hope. Revelling at times in exuberant playful celebration and, at others, in a slow relished tenderness.
“We hope that these sounds will be received by the listener in the spirit with which we offer them.”
Revel is released on 29 August 2022 (pre-order via Bandcamp). They will be touring the material to major cities through the Nest Collective and appearing at Sidmouth, Broadstairs and Shrewsbury Folk Festivals. Check dates and ticket links via their website here: https://tarrenmusic.com/shows
