David Ford and Annie Dressner joined forces at the beginning of 2022. Despite this, as I said back in April, you’d be forgiven for thinking they’d been performing together for longer.
The duo found themselves playing on the same bill at a couple of gigs in the freezing North of England. Initially sitting in for a song or two in each other’s set, these brief moments of collaboration became a highlight of the show. They had written and recorded their debut release two weeks later, naming it 48 hours in honour of the two-day burst of creativity during which most of the material was written.
48 Hours is set for release in early July, ahead of which we have the pleasure of premiering their video for their lead single, Warning Sign. Their vocal pitches blend perfectly, creating a warm and complimentary tone. There’s also a timeless classic feel to the song, which, especially towards the end of some lines, carries shades of Paul Simon and Art Garfunkle…I’m looking forward to hearing more.
Annie and David on Warning Sign:
Warning sign was the first song that let us know we could write together. We’d previously thrown around some other ideas and song beginnings but we knew we were onto something with this one and it all happened very quickly after a few back and forth conversations about lyrical content and the beauty of an overextended metaphor. Making the video was a lot of fun. We carried that damn sofa all over the place, including some locations that didn’t make the cut and by the end of the day our shoes were caked in mud, sand and old engine oil and the sofa was ruined.
Warning Sign is available on Bandcamp here, and the duo are on tour in July (see dates below).
