This new release from one of the UK’s most exciting alternative folk bands is another feather in their hat. A fast-paced whizz around a tune in true Bonfire Radicals fashion; punchy bass lines, raucous woodwinds and a whirling fiddle create a thrilling take on this favourite klezmer melody: Freilacher Nashele.
It is accompanied by a new music video which was shot and edited by Grant Harper Productions. Without giving too much away, expect real-life spinning, big hair, and confetti… and the promise that the band devised, sourced materials and built everything themselves from scratch. Watch it below.
Katie Stevens, clarinettist in the band says “Like many other bands and artistic projects, the pandemic put an enormous obstacle in our way. Plans for an energetic audience to be part of a vibrant live video recording of our new single flew fast out of the window as quickly as we could say ‘Freilacher Nashele’.
“The time, however, gave us the space to consider our music in the grand scheme. We began to ponder the big questions, what role will music play in our lives going forward? Is there a need to change from a live focus to more online available content? How will traditional music survive in a world which has digitally fast-forwarded beyond our wildest imagining?
“With these serious questions brewing amongst the ever impossible ethical issues of the pandemic, we realised we needed some lightness, a bit of silly and quite simply we wanted to transport ourselves out of our current situations.
“So instead of trying to work out the formula for a perfect music video, we instead chose to transport ourselves to our dream gig; perhaps we travelled into the future, or maybe a parallel dimension where we could be who we wanted to be and play what we felt inside with no abandon“
To celebrate the release of The Space Between, Bonfire Radicals play a number of key dates around the UK this autumn, with further touring in late spring 2023.
