Last year, Marisa Anderson and William Tyler treated us to Lost Futures. As outlined in the opening of Glenn Kimpton’s album review, it was an appropriately diverse shifting set of songs from these two highly creative players. They delivered an album that exuded confidence and beauty using repetition, space, peace and alarm across forty minutes.
Today, Thrill Jockey have shared the news of Anderson’s latest solo endeavour. Still, Here will be released on September 23rd, 2022. Along with the album announcement, she has shared the single “Waking,” an achingly beautiful nylon string acoustic guitar piece which showcases her immediate and sheer elemental capacity to speak through her instrument.
They add: Anderson translates abstractions into undeniably moving music, tracing through traditional folk tunes, imagined Sci-Fi films, and foggy sanctuaries of sound.
There’s a beautiful contemplative stillness at the heart of ‘Waking’ that has a moving emotional depth; the words ‘alchemical salve’ get mentioned, and this most definitely has that quality in abundance.
Still, Here is Anderson at her most direct, laying bare her practice of processing and understanding the world through music and distilling that practice into pieces as expressive as they are transfixing.
Marisa Anderson will be touring throughout the US, UK and Europe in support of the album, including dates with William Tyler and a festivals including Greenman, Alter, Meakusma, and Clonakilty International Guitar Festival.
