After 10 years on the folk scene, Jimmy Aldridge & Sid Goldsmith will embark on an anniversary tour this autumn. To celebrate a decade of music-making they will present a retrospective show with songs & tunes taken from across their 4 albums plus a few new offerings to kick-off the next 10 years.
The duo’s live performances are a celebration of traditional music but there is also a deep integrity and sincerity that stems from their passion for the social themes within the music. There is a common thread of political struggle, resistance, and justice as well as the occasional love song. Their shows manage to be both hard-hitting and uplifting and it is this ability that justifies their reputation as two of the most exciting musicians and social commentators on the scene.
As mentioned by Thomas Blake in his review of their 2018 album Many A Thousand:
“Often, a musical collaboration is a fleeting affair. Musicians will team up, record some songs, and then drift apart. The movement and interaction of artists is rightly a fluid, mutable thing, and can result in happy moments of serendipity and synchronicity, unusual but satisfying pairings. But occasionally a pair or group of musicians forms a bond made of stronger stuff, a collaboration becomes a lasting partnership and the whole becomes more than the sum of its parts.
“One such partnership is that formed by Jimmy Aldridge and Sid Goldsmith…Aldridge and Goldsmith are both seasoned songwriters and composers as well as interpreters of traditional tunes, so it comes as no surprise to find that once again their album contains a perfect balance of original and traditional material. They are also performers with a conscience: among their major concerns are environmental and social, and…they are well placed to take on weighty issues.“
Alongside three upcoming summer festival appearances, the duo will be on the road in October including a live-stream concert. The dates are below and further details can be found here: https://www.jimmyandsidduo.com/gigs
“exhilaratingly diverse and full of impeccably crafted and beautifully realised songs.” Thomas Blake
“To be a great folk singer, you have to be a great storyteller, as Jimmy Aldridge and Sid Goldsmith are clearly aware. The duo are both fine singers and multi-instrumentalists.” The Guardian
