Following her recent Covers album release, Cat Power has surprised all with a brand new cover single of The Rolling Stones’ “You Got The Silver”. Song covers and reinterpretations certainly seem familiar territory to Chan Marshall; Pitchfork once said that she could “rearrange a song simply by squinting at it.” Her past cover-based albums included Jukebox (2008) and The Covers Record (2000).
You Got The Silver featured on their 1969 album Let it Bleed, an album released during a chaotic time of change and was the first song to feature guitarist Keith Richards on lead vocals. It was said to have been written about his girlfriend at the time, the German-Italian actress, artist, and model Anita Pallenberg. A Jagger version was also recorded (now a popular bootleg), but they stuck with Richards for the final version. The song has also been covered by Susan Tedeschi (Hope and Desire, 2005) and Crooked Still (Some Strange Country, 2010).

Marshall is currently on tour in Europe with a full band and will play a sold-out show in Paris and support Pearl Jam at their Hyde Park London show on July 8 alongside the Pixies.
