Years and Years is the reflective new single from Amy Thatcher and her first foray into songwriting. The single focuses on things long hidden. It’s about war, how war affects lives and how our lives are about so much more than survival. It’s about time, love and the loss of both.
The single marks an important discovery that Amy made about herself, finally recognising that she is bisexual. Amy spent years and years unable to acknowledge this important part of her identity. So, for this recording, she teamed up with the wonderful vocalist and guitarist, Holly Clarke, as well as the people at @queerfolkuk, who brought this collaboration together and inspired Amy to write this song.
Years and Years takes us on a thoughtful and honest journey where Amy explores an internal fight for freedom. Accepting a long-hidden part of herself, Amy perfectly demonstrates the newfound freedom she has to give herself fully to creativity.
As we’ve said before, Amy Thatcher is in a class of her own and Years and Years is another jewel to her crown. It’s also our Song of the Day.
