The Shee are out on the road on their ‘Summer’s Promise’ Tour, which sees them performing at intimate venues throughout the UK including Moira Miners Welfare Club on 2nd May and culminating in a performance at Edinburgh’s Tradfest on Monday 9th May.
Their last album ‘Continuum‘ was an enthralling project that celebrated the power of collaboration and premiered at Celtic Connections. Here’s a clip from that performance featuring Karine Polwart and Rachel Newton performing The Jute Mill Song / Song for Mary:
In his album review, Neil McFadyen concludes:
Continuum is a perfect combination of The Shee‘s inventiveness and the creative voices of their contributors. Those voices, although not involved in the recording sessions, can be heard loud and clear in Continuum’s arrangements. Kathryn Tickell’s deeply cherished Northumbrian roots, Karine Polwart’s peerless song craft, the sheer joy of Andy Cutting’s compositions and the complimentary strength of Chris Wood’s; Brian Finnegan’s never-ending supply of airs, jigs and reels and Martin Simpson’s beautifully poetic lyrics. Each of these are tangible elements in a unique, enthralling project that celebrates the power of collaboration, a shared love of traditional music and The Shee‘s ten years as a major force in folk music.
The Shee bring together the electro-harp, accordion, flute, fiddle, mandolin and percussion as well as three hypnotic voices to create an energetic blend of Folk, Gaelic and Scottish music. The group have been nominees for the prestigious MG Alba Scots Trad Award for Best Live act, and members include Rachel Newton (winner of the BBC Radio Folk Awards Musician of the Year), Amy Thatcher, Laura-Beth Salter, Signy Jakobsdottir, Olivia Ross and Lillias Kinsman-Blake.
After the disruption of the last couple of years, the group have a very exciting programme in store, so their upcoming 2022 tour isn’t to be missed!
