Folk Radio UK have teamed up with Treadwells Bookshop again for another online workshop, led by folk singer and musician Hannah Sanders. The last online workshop explored occulted meanings lurking in the shadows of the British folk song tradition and was very well attended. For this second one, Hannah explores shapeshifting and plant magic (more below).

In this second ‘Magic in Folk Song’ class, Hannah Sanders explores shapeshifting and plant magic. In the tradition, flowers, posies and trees have symbolic meanings and occult powers. It also speaks to a capacity for humans to become Other – ghosts shapeshifters and spirits. She shows how the musical, symbolic language of transformation that still resonates deeply today, looking at Reynardine, The Three Ravens, the Two Sisters / Binnorie, The Elfin Knight, and others. Hannah teaches attendees how to listen deeply, leads the discussion, and guides meditations. She also brings the themes into hands-on workings.
Recently signed to the prestigious Topic Records, Hannah Sanders has been a singer of traditional songs since her teens, Over the last six years, she has released three studio albums of folk songs to critical acclaim, and has toured across three continents with her duo Hannah Sanders & Ben Savage. She also has a doctorate in anthropology and worked as a university lecturer for ten years in the United States.
