Last year, Charlie Parr released his Smithsonian Folkways Recordings debut Last of the Better Days Ahead. In his review of the album, David Pratt noted that “Parr’s singing on this release is his most vulnerable and potent yet.” One song, 817 Oakland Avenue, is a meditation on gratitude. As David says, the song is “…inspired by and dedicated to his friends”. He adds that it “…continues with a feel-good factor at Warp 10, with each successive verse being almost a précis of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, carrying a plea that would undoubtedly make the world a better place…”
Ahead of his UK tour next month (details below), we have the pleasure of sharing an exclusive performance of “817 Oakland Avenue” which was produced by Hear Here Presents and taped in front of a live studio audience in Milwaukee, WI.
Parr says of the song: “I’m so grateful for the fortune of friendship and for my parents, who always told me to value those relationships above all else. This is a song about gratitude, inspired by and dedicated to my friends.”
