The Young’uns are heading out on tour next month (see dates below) which marks the beginning of their journey towards the release of their next album.
They have told fans that they will be singing new songs for the first time, many of them inspired by incredible true-life stories. They also revealed that they will be making some live recordings but added “Don’t worry we won’t be forcing anyone to sing but at each concert, we’ll teach a couple of choruses and encourage audiences to join us on them.”
Many of you will recall that following the release of their 2018 album The Ballad Of Johnny Longstaff, a Featured Album of the Month at the time and reviewed here, the trio followed up in 2020 with a theatrical version – a joint-collaboration with Northern Stage, the largest producing theatre in the North East of England.
For those unfamiliar with the album, it is the remarkable true story of one man’s journey from poverty and unemployment in Stockton on Tees, through the Hunger Marches of the 1930s, the mass trespass movement and the Battle of Cable Street, to fighting fascism in the Spanish Civil War. In a timely, touching and hilarious musical adventure, this new production follows the footsteps of a working-class hero who chose not to look the other way when the world needed his help and took part in some of the momentous events of the 1930s.
The Ballad Of Johnny Longstaff contains the past and it contains the future. It is a special achievement by an extremely talented group.

BBC Radio 3 will be visiting them in Stockton on 17th March (details here) to make a special recording of the theatre show which will be broadcast at a later date on Sunday 1st May (time tbc).
