Keston Cobblers Club return with a meditative new single, ‘Lullaby For The Wide Awake’ – out March 30th 2022 via Absolute Label Services.
Struggling with insomnia for the majority of her adult life, band member Julia Lowe wrote ‘Lullaby For The Wide Awake’ in the early hours of the morning when her lack of sleep steered her towards creativity. The track offers a steady stream of soothing qualities, affirming its sedative effect with the compliments of a calming string arrangement and Julia’s gentle vocal. Supported by alleviating flurries of instrumentation, ‘Lullaby For The Wide Awake’ still hones in on a staple folk-laden Cobbler’s backdrop, despite being one of the group’s softer takes, with a vocal appearance from brother Matthew and the added force of brass in the track’s closing moments. With its medicinal purpose, ‘Lullaby For The Wide Awake’ presents itself as a comforting lullaby for those having difficulty resting their weary eyes.
‘Lullaby For The Wide Awake’ is the fourth single from the band’s upcoming new studio album, ‘Alchemy’ following the release of last year’s ‘Find My Way’ (released when the Cobblers were touring the UK with Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbot) ‘Mrs Dixon’ in January and the excellent Jupiter in February. Fans will be able to hear these tracks along with a whole load of other new songs live when the quartet kick off their brand-new UK tour this April starting in Nottingham on the 21st April. There’s also another European tour in the works and a busy summer of festivals.
The new album ‘Alchemy’ out on April 22nd, sees the band returning to their roots with the theme of the album based on old folklore from their hometown. The Anthem of the Alchemist tells the story of an Alchemist who dedicates his life to turning basic metals into gold, only to discover when older that the treasures he sought were always within him. He finds an old message in a bottle buried beneath Keston Ponds and Caesar’s Well that he forgot he had written as a child. It reads ‘You will find it right beside you. Forget the gold it’ll only blind you’.
