In his review of the album (read it here), Thomas Blake notes: that The Same Land, a Jenny Sturgeon song, explores themes of self-examination, home and wildness in the context of political and social upheaval. He adds: Sturgeon is a songwriter of rare, quiet power and on The Same Land MacColl’s fiddle provides the perfect backing for her bittersweetness and melancholy.
