In May 2020, Devon-born duo Cole Stacey and Joseph O’Keefe, better known as India Electric Co., delivered their second album, The Gap. In his review of the album, Mike Davies described it as “a masterful, innovative, highly accomplished and persuasively entertaining work that reinforces their credentials as one of the truly pioneering acts in contemporary folk music.”
That pioneering force is more than apparent as percussionist Russell Field (Midge Ure) joins them on a long-awaited tour. In our 2020 interview, they shared how Russell had helped them “to explore rhythm to a slightly higher standard” on The Gap. The dynamic that Russell introduces to their music is quite remarkable; there’s a greater vibrancy that also highlights their individual top-class musicianship. To mark the occasion, they have shared a live video with the trio performing Heimat, which you can watch below. This is sure to be an unforgettable tour (see dates below).
They shared the following:
As we prepare to head out for our first UK tour in three years, it feels right to now bring drums into our live arrangements for the first time. After working with the brilliant Russell Field in Midge Ure’s band since 2017, he’s a perfect fit, and it’s enabled us to return to songs from our debut album with refreshed ideas and arrangements.
One such track is Heimat which we were thrilled to get the chance to record in the surprisingly warm St Ambrose Church in Bournemouth. It’s a song with a fusion of themes of homelands with words from W.H Auden, and we can’t wait to get the chance to finally play it in front of a live audience.
