Through their Resound YouTube series, West Cork Music continue to shine a light on some of West Cork’s brightest talent. The sessions are filmed in some beautifully atmospheric locations including Bantry Museum, Christ Church Glandore, Baltimore Castle, An Sanctoir and the Old Methodist Church, Bantry.
One of the latest to feature is Molly O’Mahony of the art-folk group Mongoose whose members also include Ailbhe & Cara Dunn and Muireann Ní Cheannabháin whose video with Saileog we shared a while back. Molly recently released her new single Brother Blue which can be heard in our Mellow Folk Playlist and her debut solo album is due for release in late 2022.
Watch Molly performing ‘Remember To Be Brave’ below on which she says “The song came to me in March of 2020, just as the world was coming to a standstill as the reality of the Covid pandemic set in. A tribute to self-forgiveness, the inherent good in humanity, and a reminder to be brave enough to shake off the shackles of shame and turn towards the light.”
Molly is a striking performer, her voice made an immediate impression, she’s definitely not one you’re likely to forget. We’re looking forward to hearing more this year.
As well as Molly O’Mahony, among this year’s exciting line-up of West Cork musicians are Eve Clague, Brian Casey, Lea M., Kate Liddell, Armando Ramirez, Mira Geluk, Dale Holland, Niall Mc Guinness, Noel Maguire, Jodi Ní Dhonnchú, Stephen Housden, Margaret Kennedy, Les Sampson and Mike Geaney.
Clodagh Whelan of West Cork Music says, “Unfortunately, the past year has not been very prosperous for many musicians trying to work in an unstable environment. Audiences have missed the connection they receive from live performances and miss the opportunity to hear original compositions by Irish-based artists on their local stage.”
A year ago, Resound’s programme of filmed performances in Bantry House brightened the early months of 2021, reminding online audiences of the wealth of creativity and talent that persist in these difficult times. The number of views surpassed expectations and it featured in one of Tourism Ireland’s international campaigns.
Ballydehob singer songwriter Molly O’Mahony says, “The Resound project has a knack for sniffing out musical gems in West Cork. I’ve been both delighted and educated, watching the videos they created over 2020 – such talent and many names I wasn’t even aware of. And the production values are amazing. It’s an honour to be included in the ranks of musicians filmed for the project.”
From 17 January, videos will be released each Monday and Friday on West Cork Music’s YouTube channel – www.youtube.com/resoundwestcork. Subscribe to their channel to get notifications of new videos.
