Mo Chuisle (My Pulse in Irish) is a brand new single by Irish singer Eva Coyle, due on 25th January 2022. Mo Chuisle follows Eva’s recent single, When You’re Weary, released in November 2021 which also premiered on Folk Radio.
Mo Chuisleis an original composition by Eva and it marries musical influences from her native Ireland alongside a Scandinavian influence thanks to her time spent studying and performing in Sweden. Fittingly Mo Chuisle was performed by a mix of Swedish and Irish musicians, with fiddle player Nina Perez referencing a Swedish Polska and Mattias Perez performing on bouzouki and acoustic guitar. Eva’s gorgeous, haunting vocal soars over the tune creating an ethereal sound. The song was recorded in Karlstad, Sweden, other elements were later recorded with Mike O’Dowd and then mixed and mastered by producer Brian Casey at Wavefield Studios. When asked about the theme for Mo Chuisle, Eva explains, “it’s about the hungry heart, the one that fears not being busy, the noise of future plans. There is a longing to simply release and embrace the now”. Musically sophisticated but with bags of mass appeal, Mo Chuisle recalls other folk crossover artists such as Iris Dement and Gemma Hayes as well as international stars such as Nancy Griffith and Norah Jones.
For someone so young, Eva’s musical CV is impressive, to say the least. She was born in Athlone in central Ireland to a musical family and studied Irish Music at the Irish World Academy then earned her Erasmus at Ingesund, Karlstad University in Värmland, studying Swedish Folk Music. Having made a name for herself in Sweden she toured there with legendary Swedish folk musician Mats Berglund. Between 2013 and 2016 Eva spent time in Chicago where she performed with the cream of the crop of US-based Irish music stars including Denis Cahill of the Gloaming. She is currently working with Swedish Folk artist Mattias Perez on her forthcoming debut album, due for release in Spring 2022. With the previous single When You’re Weary having picked up airplay across the UK and Ireland, including on the Radio 2 Folk Show, BBC Ulster and far beyond, it seems that this super talent is only going to burn brighter and brighter.
