Artistic Associates Alan Bearman Music are to team up with Kings Place once again for their Unwrapped series, with Unity in Song: a weekend celebration of powerful voices from the folk tradition, and the joy of community singing.
They shared the following on the event:
The queen of folk and political song, Peggy Seeger joins us with her son Calum MacColl, plus support from a capella collective Green Ribbons. We welcome back sweet-toned Irish singer songwriter Cara Dillon, and Martin & Eliza Carthy, members of a formidable English music dynasty.
You can also immerse yourself in workshops across the weekend from prolific leaders in song, with Sally Davies on songs from the English tradition, Green Ribbons on unaccompanied group song, and Eugenia Georgieva on Bulgarian ancient harmony singing, plus a special intimate solo performance.

In The First Farewell Tour, the charismatic Peggy Seeger – singer, songwriter, feminist, icon is joined by her son Calum MacColl, an exceptional musician in his own right, for a glorious evening of up-close performance. Expect to hear some of Peggy and Ewan MacColl’s most loved songs, readings from Peggy’s award-winning memoir The First Time Ever, plenty of audience participation and lots of relaxed family banter.
Green Ribbons is a collective project dedicated to the celebration of unaccompanied song with Debbie Armour, Alasdair Roberts, Benjamin “Jinnwoo” Webb, Fran Foote and Jack Sharp.

Lush and Dissonant Workshop with Sally Davies

Join experienced singer, choir leader, composer and multi-instrumentalist Sally Davies for 2 workshops on songs from the English Tradition. The former Cecil Sharp House Choir director’s arrangements are sung by many choirs and a capella groups and her book of folk song arrangement, Lovers, Legends and Laments has sold widely both in the UK and abroad.
Bulgarian Song Workshop with Eugenia Georgieva

Experience traditional village diaphony from the Shopluk region in the southwest of Bulgaria – the home of Bulgarian ancient harmony singing. A participatory workshop with some background on style and history, taught by ear, with printouts of the lyrics.
Celebrating Unaccompanied Song with Green Ribbons

Join Green Ribbons – a project dedicated to the celebration of unaccompanied song – to look at archive diving, setting traditional song for harmony and adding new works to the canon. There will also be a chance for you to join in song and learn some of the group’s arrangements.

Eugenia Georgieva

Bulgarian singer Eugenia is internationally known for her work with a cappella group Perunika Trio, vocal fusion outfit YANTRA, and her own five-piece band. For this special intimate performance, she will present a selection of songs from the Bulgarian tradition, unadorned and sung completely a cappella, as they would have been performed on those long winter nights at work gatherings, or on starry summer evenings on the village square.
