When You’re Weary is the brand new single by the Irish singer Eva Coyle (currently based in West Cork), which is due for release on 12th November 2021. When You’re Weary follows Eva’s debut EP Feels Like Rain, released in February 2018.
When You’re Weary was written by noted West Cork musician Bean Dolan and arranged by Eva. As you can hear below, she has incorporated elements of Irish traditional music into this gorgeous, waltz-time ballad. Led by Eva’s beautiful vocal, she is accompanied by Bean on guitar alongside an all-star cast of Irish musicians, including John Williams on low whistle alongside Katie Grennan on first fiddle and Sean O’ Dalaigh on second fiddle. Musically sophisticated but with bags of mass appeal, When You’re Weary recalls other folk crossover artists such as Lisa Hannigan and Gemma Hayes and international stars such as Nancy Griffith and Norah Jones. With the launch of When You’re Weary, it seems inevitable that Eva will continue to cement her reputation as one of the hot talents in folk music, both in Ireland and far beyond.
For someone so young, Eva’s musical CV is impressive. She was born in Athlone in central Ireland to a musical family and studied Irish Music at the Irish World Academy, then earned her Erasmus at Ingesund, Karlstad University in Värmland, studying Swedish Folk Music. Having made a name for herself in Sweden, she toured there with legendary Swedish folk musician Mats Berglund. Between 2013 and 2016, Eva spent time in Chicago, where she performed with the cream of the crop of US-based Irish music stars, including Denis Cahill of the Gloaming. She is currently working with Swedish folk artist Mattias Perez on her forthcoming EP, due for release in Spring 2022. When You’re Weary was recorded at Wavefield Studios, Clonakilty, Cork with producer Brian Casey at the helm.
