We recently shared the news of ÙRAR (pronounced oo-rar), the new album from Scotland’s most loved trad-rock bands Mànran which is due for release this month on 22nd October.
Their lineup has grown and now features Scottish songstress Kim Carnie and guitarist Aidan Moodie. Alongside Ewen Henderson on fiddle, Gary Innes on accordion, Ross Saunders on bass guitar, Ryan Murphy on whistles and Mark Scobbie on drums, they sound incredible. ÙRAR translates as ‘fresh’ or ‘flourishing’, a title that has never been so apt as their energetic and powerful new single Ailean testifies, the video for which you can watch below.
They tell us:
“Ailean’ is the second and final single from our upcoming record ÙRAR. It’s got a really different energy to the album’s first single ‘Crow Flies’ so we’re excited to see what’s made of it!
“This song is one of the first we started work on when Kim and Aidan first joined the band, and it’s been a favourite of ours ever since; it feels fresh but still very much like a Mànran single.
“Built from a melody composed for the band by Mischa Macpherson, the song’s heart is in its traditional Gaelic lyrics written by a grieving woman for her husband, father and three brothers lost at sea. Heavy stuff. We hope you enjoy!”
This is sure to go down a treat at their upcoming live dates.
Hot on the heels of appearances at Wickham Festival, Glasgow’s Piping Live! and Capers in Cannich, the band are set to embark on a tour across Germany, Switzerland and Austria in October and November before returning for a number of Scottish dates in December.
ÙRAR will be available to buy on CD, download and stream from Friday 22 October 2021.
Ailean is available to stream now and can also be heard in our Spotify Playlist ‘Regular Folk‘.
