Pennsylvanian duo Native Harrow (Devin Tuel & Stephen Harms), now residing in Brighton, have a new single being released this coming Monday (20 September via Loose), their first new music since last year’s Closeness (2020). The single is titled ‘Turn It Around’ and was conceived towards the end of the Closeness album sessions.
The single is being released in support of their European and UK tour which kicks off next month (see dates below). The track, ‘Turn It Around’, was conceived during the sessions for their most recent and highly praised album ‘Closeness’. Without the possibility of touring to support their most expansive record to date, the band elected to return to the studio where they recorded Closeness to continue living in that world, if only for a few more days. They tracked six new songs, again with drummer/engineer Alex Hall, and are sharing two of them with you over the coming weeks, before turning their focus towards a new sound, a new direction, and the next era of Native Harrow.
“This song comes from a time where I spent months walking around the same 3 mile road day after day after day. One foot in front of the other, a bit lost, and very introspective. I felt as though I was watching the minutes pass before my eyes and noticing the microscopic changes that occur in the soul, in the mind, and in the body. Seeing my parents and my sisters growing older, feeling myself age. Never changing, then changing overnight. Wanting to do better, and to try cutting others some slack. It’s all there in this song. And I finally wrote one I get to play harmonica on.” – Devin Tuel
Opening with an easy-paced guitar and piano, the track gradually builds adding percussion, organ. Devin’s soulful vocals are positively shining throughout this song; drop in some absolutely stunning backing vocals and you get into the sublime. Soulfully immense it’s one of those songs that lift you while maintaining an easy-rolling vibe…it’s impossible to resist. With such strong output, you’d be a fool to miss the opportunity to catch them live.
Turn It Around is also our Song of the Day.
