Described as Nashville renaissance man, David Ferguson is a Grammy Award-winning recording engineer, studio owner, video game soundtrack composer, who has collaborated with the likes of Johnny Cash, John Prine, and Sturgill Simpson. It’s now time for him to step into the spotlight as Fat Possum Records announce his debut album Nashville No More, due for release on September 3rd.
Ahead of the album’s release, today we have been treated to his album-closing cover of Stephen Foster’s “Hard Times Come Again No More,” which was first published in 1854. Despite the age of the song, it has a modern and timely resonance:
“I really think Stephen Foster might have known he was writing a song that would only get better and more meaningful with time,” says Ferguson about the song. “To write one that’s still loved over 160 years later is only more proof of his true poetic and melodic genius.”
Fans can watch a live video of Ferguson—as well as album guests Sierra Hull, Justin Moses, Mike Rojas and Pete Abbott—performing “Hard Times Come Again No More” below. This is quite some performance and his warm baritone is sure to capture the attention of many ahead of the album’s release. This self-produced, ten-song collection is a deserving winner for sure.
