Today sees the release of a new single from Danny George Wilson (Grand Drive/Danny & The Champions Of The World/Bennett Wilson Poole). ‘Heaven For Hiding’, also our Song of the Day, finds him further exploring his colourful new direction. While the song has an overall laid back feel, there’s an infectious underlying quirky energy that counters Wilson’s ruminations through the skittering drums and organ that put me in mind of Dylan’s Basement Tapes. That connection is maybe also thanks to that similar feeling of looseness and experimentation that Wilson seems so drawn to on this outing.
Taken from his upcoming solo album ‘Another Place’, which has been described as radically surprising, it finds him presenting a vibrant and diverse collection of impressionistic songs created in collaboration with Sussex-based, studio-wizard Hamish Benjamin.
The press describes the album as Wilson’s most romantic songs ever but equally some of his most unhinged. It’s also totally infectious…bring it on.
