This week (1st June) saw the release of ‘Martin’s Garden’ on Mellowtone Records, the sophomore album from Seafoam Green, the Irish songwriting duo Dave O’Grady and Muireann McDermott Long. Tomorrow they will release their third album single ‘For Something To Say’, the video for which we have the pleasure of premiering below. The album opener is aptly described as fuzzy jam-band grit and sunshine harmonies, oozing with guitar solo twang and expansive organ vistas. As with their debut album Topanga Mansion, alongside classic influences such as Creedence Clearwater Revival, Crosby, Stills Nash and Young, they also take great inspiration from many of the current folk-rock and Americana artists from both sides of the Atlantic.
Influences aside, “For Something To Say” gives all those classic names a run for their money. This is a glorious widescreen vision and intuitive performance impeccably delivered by the duo with Muireann McDermott Long’s vocals adding the electrical spark. A band to be reckoned with? Absolutely, they are firmly anchored at the pinnacle of rock n’ soul.
On the new single Dave O’Grady says, “’For Something to Say’ is a glimpse of things we have seen/thought and experienced on the road; be it USA or Europe, a new story unfolds in front of us everyday and it’s quite the adventure!“
“We are an old school ‘road band’, we love to travel and spread our music”, he explains “…plus it’s the only way we make a living…’I’ve see the sun set twice today’ is how it can feel when you’re on a 1,000-mile drive between shows but you’ve gotta make it!”.
He expands“I burn my feet for something to say”, – touring and travelling (especially squashed into a hatchback with gear for months) can be very hard on the mind and the body but we do it to gain and share our experiences through our music.”.
Their debut was a collaboration with Rich Robinson, of the Black Crowes. Once again, Seafoam Green are collaborating with the artists residing in their own record collections – inspirations steeped in the culture of the Southern States.
